Barewood has been developed within a framework of mature trees which helps to create a tranquil oasis. A simple water feature greets visitors on arrival. The romantic century old homestead with wide verandahs dripping in white wisteria and old fashioned roses flows seemlessly into lush herbaceous borders and sweeping lawns.
Imaginative colour combinations using unusual herbaceous plants and shrubs can be seen in the different areas throughout the garden. A hawthorn walk leads through a grassed meadow to a summer house and a small pond fringed with water plants, willows and silver birches.
Following on, a formal potager enclosed by a hornbeam hedge containing soft fruits, vegetables, herbs and flowers and pears trained over canopies provide a harvest all year round. An allee of Malus tschonoskii leads from the potager to box edged herbaceous borders. Within the garden is the 120-year-old cob cottage which has been lovingly restored.
The garden at Barewood has been developed over many years and is very much a labour of love.
